What makes a great coaching tool?
When you use the Grid as your go-to coaching tool you and your clients will benefit from:
1. Coaching with confidence
A coach needs to have confidence for and in their client when the client often has doubt as well as the coaching process. Grid and our Grid for coaches training are designed to strengthen coaches’ confidence. It also helps the coach avoid burnout which is critical to their effectiveness as a coach.
Being experiential, our Grid for Coaches training helps you as a coach to deepen your skills of observation, share, and sensing.
These skills are transformative to powerful non-directive work. Grid framework makes it easy for you to move your client from stuck states or resistance to curiosity and a willingness to inquire and act.

2. A powerful framework
The Grid offers an incredibly powerful framework. Grid is probably the only approach in the world that can effectively integrate the big picture with a daily execution. This means the coach and client cam turn ideas into results on a healthy basis right away.
As we’re always standing in our life, the Grid coaching tool invites clients to adopt a powerful existential perspective. This can be experienced somatically and energetically in a far more powerful way than just cognitively. We teach coaches how.
3. Robust and time-effective process
The Grid coaching process allows the coach to work deeply and authentically using different learning modalities. Including the power of somatically experiencing.
This means the client builds awareness without feeling overwhelmed. Their nervous system is kept in a resourceful and safely grounded state.
4. A culturally sensitive tool that supports healthy agency and self-care
Let’s face it productivity is a loaded term that can be further complicated by culture. With its emphasis of balance and mindful facing into what is, Grid helps coaches work in a profound and culturally sensitive manner.
Often your client’s responsibility to others (family and kids, work colleagues, their mission) gets in the way of self-care. This can drive people on relentlessly, giving rise to bad habits.
This vicious cycle drains confidence and increases anxiety. Grid coaching tackles this head-on with a practical and tech-free approach.
5. Progress that is clear to see
Coaching comes into it own because we need to feel witnessed, have someone cheering us on, and be held accountable. Most if not all great performers have a mentor or coach.
Grid gives the coach and client a fun and easy way to measure progress. It provides evidence of results as well as learning. Clients love the high degree of flexibility, and coaches get to know their clients better faster.

Take a look at some practical ways that Grid coaching can help coaches who coach in different contexts
Coaches who coach…
Inside organizations
Organizations need to have healthy, engaged, and productive workforce. According to global HR leaders and the CIPD, workplace productivity and wellbeing and leadership capability need improving.
At the heart of this is the need for staff to learn how to tap into a natural flow of how minds and bodies like to work. Grid is based on these insights.
Grid helps staff be more productive because it increases focus, eliminates procrastination, and encourages people to manage a more complete agenda that limits anxiety and reduces stress.
In our work, we often see employees start reporting they get results at a big cost or don’t get the results they want. With just 2-3 weeks of Grid coaching this trend starts to reverse.
“Grid was integral to the process of bringing thinking and discovering wisdom together into one place. From both a coaching and humanistic perspective the Grid allowed us to integrate heart, mind and spirit. It showed us the way and at the same time mapped our progress which is truly motivational.
It transpired that it is also a fantastic map for use in supervision, encouraging reactive practice and leads to a kind, compassionate way of being. “
Ivan Beaumont, Coaching Academy Director at Network Rail
“I was recommended the Get Productive Grid book by my coach at Network Rail. I’ve really enjoyed using the Grid system.
It is deceptively simple and it’s only when you put it into practice that you realise how powerful it is.”
Jeremy Bullock, Programme Manager at Network Rai
Doctors
Doctors have very little time. They want quick results because they’re in the business of helping other people. But sometimes they actually have to help themselves too.
As more doctors and medical staff risk burnout and want to leave their profession due to stress, Grid coaching delivers a very compelling ROI. Doctors learn to self-care better and their work satisfaction increases.
Grid will give you and your client structure, a simple daily task that can be done in seconds to implement new healthy habits. And we have the data and first-person accounts to prove it.
Grid will also help you address a number of other work and career issues that may be getting in the way of their work. Thus your coaching will be incredibly powerful for the time spent.
Here is the feedback from the 5 Self Care Forum judges (GPs and Wellbeing Advocates).
Self Care Forum 2022 Awards Feedback about the Grid
- Excellent tool, tempted to use it myself, lots of free materials.
- Grid is flexible, person-centered and relevant. Reading through the information made me want to do the Grid.
- Teaching the skills to self-care is at the heart of the initiative. Great examples of the evidence of impact and feedback. Anyone can use it.
Lawyers
Lawyers often suffer from very long work hours and perfectionistic tendencies. This means that their lives lack balance and their personal life can often get squeezed out. There is always more to be done and clients who need that work yesterday.
Many coaches in this space are helping their clients manage workload, manage stress, and prevent burnout or get into wellness. Grid is incredibly effective at giving the coach and client an immediate structure that can be applied on the daily basis. It experientially places them into the framework to help them gently explore some of their current habits, and the hidden costs, so that they can build the motivation for change.
Grid practice can then support that change with small steps that make it possible to begin to transform their current state into something better.
Career returners also struggle to rebalance their work level and career. But, career management is a challenge for many people. Grid coaching makes this super easy.
I can honestly say that Magdalena’s Get Productive GRID is an invaluable tool.
I have been using Grid for 6 months now and it has revolutionised my approach to productivity and work-life balance and I use it on a weekly basis. I am no longer reliant on long to-do lists! I love the fact that it’s adaptable and I’ve been able to make it my own, so it works for me, rather than me having to fit into someone else’s system.
It’s great to focus on the things that attract my energy without forgetting the other things I have to do! And most importantly, I’ve stopped feeling guilty about taking time for ‘self-care.’ I highly recommend The Get Productive Grid.

Scientists and creatives whose work is also their passion
One of the big costs that come with doing what you love is that it can sometimes swallow the person, squeezing much else out.
Things that are much more important, such as relationships, personal life, health and wellbeing and critical self-care can get neglected.
Until one day there’s trouble.
Grid coaching prevents this from happening. It also helps clients recover healthier balance.
Grid coach has a mighty coaching tool, a ready structure and the means to help their client transition towards better within just a few weeks creating lasting behaviour change.
As we need more healthy scientists to raise the next generation of thinkers and inventors, Grid is showing much impact in this arena and also as a highly effective tool and method to support women and minority groups.
Students
Grid will make your job easier. Students often feel stressed and a tad lost when it comes to their life, studies and career. They come for guidance and advice but often there’s a disconnect between the advisor/coach and the experience of the student. Instruments and diagnostics help but what many students need, in practice is to be coached in taking practical steps that build results and confidence.
Our data shows students like the Grid but often need to be supported in implementing it. Grid coaches help students develop life-long success skills.
A coach can introduce the Grid to students, help them identify actions and review results at the next meeting.
As we know since things like writing CV, seeking work are things students often put off, Grid coaching helps students be employable and have better mental health.
With Grid we can coach students to take the necessary steps and develop a growth mindset. This builds true confidence.
Start-ups and CEOs with big dreams
Visionaries often fall into a common thinking error. They think way too big in the short term and far too small in the longer term. Burnout in this category is the highest. Grid structure and how we set goals to time in it, work together to prevent overwhelm, eliminate confusion and keep stress low.
Without coaching many entrepreneurs succumb to internal critic, lose nerve, confidence and often quit too soon or make silly mistakes that cost time and money. Sadly in this process, failure however quick, also means loss of confidence and need to pick yourself up which can be hard, make one edge and hard to work with.
A Grid coach has the tool, process and framework to support someone in this space in be focused, clear and productive.
Other coaches…
And there are many other coaching scenarios – parents, carers, wellbeing and health coaches as well as life coaches – where Grid coaching will bring incredible value.
The need for Grid coaching
We’re faced with a world where:
- More than 250,000 of young people between ages 18-24 report being put off work, according to research from City & Guilds done in 2022.
- a third of employees under 35 report lack of motivation hindering their performance at work.
- Burnout in the workplace across too many sectors is at an all-time high adding more pressure on everyone and eroding good performance as well as threatening safety standards.
- The agendas of EDI and profit are not always aligning where more people need development in roles and career support to stay engaged and motivated at work.
- The pandemic has given rise to far more remote working but this has blurred boundaries and exhausted staff.
- Drive for automation and technical skill sets is dangerously downplaying important humanistic qualities of effective leadership critical to motivating and engaging people to give their best.
- There appears to be too little psychological safety for people to perform well fuelling chronic stress. Employees are constantly worried about their jobs and career progressions are flat lowering morale, and creating resentment and disengagement.
- The number of people taking sick leave and having to resort to antidepressants is rising and is already estimated to cost the UK 92 Billion.
But most of all, all of this comes home to dinner! It adds pressure on systems that are already overstretched including parents and kids, those to whom we look for help and guidance – doctors, teachers, nurses, and care workers, and those in positions of power and leadership. If we’re all chronically tired and fearful – what sort of world can we create and model?
So while Grid is not a panacea, it is definitely something practical that can make a positive difference.
